Clay Buchholz Rewarded with Demotion
So, people frequently talk of the Red Sox and their depth, but I didn't quite know the extent until yesterday. Clay Buchholz, the Sox latest young gun from the Lone Star State, beat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1 in Toronto. However, the 24 year old was promptly sent back down to AAA Pawtucket. Puzzling? I agree. Boston with the best record in the American League and closing in on the best record in baseball don't seem to mind. With an extra starting pitching already in John Smoltz, and Dice - K on the "disabled list", the Boston pitching staff seems pretty loaded. Also with the best relief in baseball that includes such aces as Hediki Okajima and pseudo starter Justin Masterson (3-3 2-2 as a starter), and the spandex dancing Johnathan Papelbon the sky is the limit for the young pitching staff (sorry Timmy). With talk of acquiring 2009 All Star Game starter Roy Halladay, the Red Sox could get scary good fast. So I guess there's just no room for Mr. Buchholz, who's resumé already includes a MLB no hitter, and a 97 mile per hour fast ball. Shame. However Clay Buchholz (age 24) along with Masterson (24) Bard (24) and Lester (25) form a pretty solid pitching foundation for the Red Sox of the future. Theo Epstein GM of the Red Socks seems to have the incredible knack of acquiring and dumping players at the right time, so most Red Sox fans trust his judgement.
