The End. Red Sox Ed.

So today is Monday October 12 and the Sox season is over. Swept in the first round by the team that they humiliated over the past few years, The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Games one and two had stunning efforts by both Jared Weaver and John Lackey, although both Josh Beckett and John Lester both pitched acceptably the Red Sox offense wasn't there, scoring one run in L.A. I believe fundamental changes need to be made this off season to make the Red Sox the danger they were two years ago. Lowell, Ortiz, Gonzalez, and Papelbon need to go as well as possibly Veritek. LA pointed out what an old team the Red Sox are, the young talent on the team however is enough of a foundation to build upon. Jacoby Ellsbury is the super star of this team, he hits consistently and his speed and outfield skills are unmatched by others in the league. The steroid era is over, if a team has a huge hitter, they get walked (see Albert Pujols who was walked 115 times this season). The Angels where scary at 1 through 9, everyone steals, and noone is expected to hit big every time they are up.

Next Year

CF Ellsbury
2B Padroia
1B Martinez
3B Youkillis
LF Bay
DH Drew
SS New
C New Or Vtek
RF Reddick

With a good farm system, the Red Sox are never really in danger of being out of playoff talks. With the end of the Rays seeming possible and the strength of the AL Central being nonexistent. The rangers are the only competition the Sox really have as of now is the rangers. But, we will wait and see what the off season brings. and for now go phils!
